Would you fly 569 miles for a spa day?

Well, that is exactly what I decided to do in April.

I've always been a sucker when it comes to a spa day. Any excuse for a bit of adult time chilling is a win for me. However, there was nothing chill about this day!

I'm a spontaneous person, so after I came across a post advertising a spa in Munich, I'd fallen down a rabbit hole before I knew it.

I was suddenly searching through Skyscanner for the cheapest flights and wanting to fly from Gatwick the best-priced flights were coming out with Easyjet

We settled on a date at the end of April, and after choosing our seats the flights cost around £90 each.

We flew out at 6.20 am, landing in Munich at around 9 am there time. We only took a backpack each with our swim stuff as we were hiring towels at the spa.

Passport control leaving Munich airport was a bit slow. My other half tried to go though the EU lane as he had an old passport, I said it doesn't work that way, babe. Funny watching him have to walk back round big smug smile on my face.

From the airport, there are a few ways to get to the spa, the bus being the cheapest option.

Line 512 bus takes around 55 minutes and costs between £2-£4

The train takes an hour and costs between £15-£20

We wanted to get there as fast as we could so jumped in a taxi outside, it cost £45 and took 15 minutes.

I should have added that once flights were booked we reserved a four-hour slot at the spa for £6. I was worried about forking out the full spa price in case our flight was delayed or cancelled.

The spa was called Therme Erding and boasts being the world's largest spa! We needn't of reserved the time slot as the lady in reception wasn't sure what I was showing her so I just asked for the four-hour slot for everything, I've linked the ticket as the website can be confusing, it's the Tropical spa and VitalityOasis ticket and it cost €42 each which is pretty incredible when you see how much is there!

We spent our day exploring everything on offer, thankfully the weather was beautiful so we took advantage of the outdoor slides first, my other half eagerly pacing the queue with excitement! Honestly, a child free day is never relaxing when you have a man-child!

Most of the pools had a swim up bar in them, these were very popular outside in the sun. My favourite pool has to be the wave pool! it was huge! I grabbed some pool noodles to float on and let myself drift around. It was so relaxing.

The indoor water slides opened a bit later so we grabbed some lunch in the poolside restaurant, didn't think prices were too bad there.

Next to the restaurant was a little kids' splash pad, and turnstiles to the adult-only part, which of course we popped into next.

We spent an hour or so hopping from hot tub to water beds, into relaxation rooms then back out to saunas. I wish we had booked a longer day here so we could have enjoyed it all a bit more slow-paced rather than rushing through it all wanting to see everything.

Finally the indoor slides opened so, of course, we had to rush there. Mr man child was straight on them. Some great slides for all ages there, we are planning to go back with the kids next year as I know they will love it too!

Four hours over, we headed back to the changing rooms, which I have to say were huge, extremely clean, and had plenty of hairdryers!

We didn't really have a plan after we left as we still had 6 hours until we needed to be back at the airport, so we hopped on the bus to the train station.

The train station was quite comical as we had no idea which platform would take us to Munich center. We did manage to ask someone who told us the opposite side as the train was coming so we had to run( just what you want to do after 4 hours swimming)

The train cost €13 and took an hour. We got off at Marienplatz station. The station was massive and as we finally found our way out of it we stumbled right into a football prematch march! The atmosphere was absolutely buzzing. We joined in for a while, then ducked out of the crowd to explore.

Not really knowing what was about or what to do we ended up doing some shopping for the kids (always the way when they're not with us, it's like they guilt trip us telepathically)

Found myself a Starbucks, needed all the caffeine I could get after the early morning.

After a couple hours we headed back to the station to find a train back to the airport. again this was a bit of a palaver, it was so busy we lost each other for a while, I was too busy filming the football chants and he had gone to find a ticket machine. After a few moments of panic ( probably just me) we found each other, then had to find the right train again. Just over an hour back to the airport, we still had 3 hours till our flight so headed through security only to find not much on the other side. Then our plane was delayed an hour! By this time my other half was completely done in from all the excitement of the day and had to have a lay down. I stocked up on snacks and drinks for the flight.

Landed back at Gatwick just before midnight, Passport control was a breeze.

We had parked in Gatwick short stay car park, which cost about £40, so back in the car and home by 1 am.

Long day but worth it for the experience.

Total to visit the world's largest spa for the day under £400 for 2 people.

Would you do it?

Thanks for taking the time to read the blog. Feel free to ask any questions.
